Getting Started

Once an individual has decided to pursue bariatric surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, it is important to become well educated about the surgical procedure and what life will be like following surgery.

All prospective patients are required to attend a preoperative Bariatric Surgery Patient Information Session. This 90-minute presentation and lecture given by a surgeon and dietitian is designed to give an overview of the various surgical procedures, the risks of surgery as well as the benefits of long-term weight reduction.

The information session covers the post-operative diet and lifestyle changes required for successful weight loss. The setting is informal and patients are encouraged to ask questions about the surgery and life after the procedure.

Bariatric Surgery Patient Information Session

  • First Monday of every month
  • 1:00-2:30 pm (evening sessions are scheduled on occasion)
  • Gardner Conference Room, 1st floor Wright-Saunders Building, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center
  • Call 215-662-9198 to verify the next date/time and to reserve your seat in the next session.

We encourage all patients to read about bariatric surgery and attend support group meetings.
