Getting Started

Screening Appointments

Surgeon: Each patient is evaluated by the gastrointestinal surgeon. At this time, the patient's current and past medical history are reviewed and the patient undergoes a complete physical examination.

Nutritionist: Prior to surgery, the patient's diet history, current eating behavior and food preferences are individually evaluated by the bariatric clinical nutrition specialist. The patient is also required to attend a preoperative nutrition counseling session. The cost of the nutrition counseling session is $200.*

Psychologist: Every patient undergoes a preoperative psychological evaluation. This assists in determining if the patient is psychologically/emotionally prepared for surgery. The cost of the psychological evaluation is $200.*

*Whenever possible the psychological evaluation and nutrition counseling appointments are scheduled for the same day, and occur at the same location.

Medical: Select patients must undergo a series of medical test and obtain clearance from their cardiologist and/or medical doctor prior to surgery. It is recommended that patients begin this process immediately after their initial surgical appointment.
