Multidisciplinary Management of Adult Congenital Heart Disease

The Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center was founded in 2005 as a joint program between the University of Pennsylvania Health System and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Nearly 1 million adults are now living in the United States with congenital heart defects. Adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) patients require highly specialized, multidisciplinary care, which many adult cardiologists are not sufficiently trained to provide.

Providing seamless, comprehensive care for this expanding segment of cardiac patients, the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center is one of the fastest-growing ACHD programs in the nation.

One of the Fastest-Growing ACHD Programs in the Nation

“This center is so vital because it provides patients access to real expertise and a multidisciplinary team of experts, so they'll get the individualized care they really need. Plus, we're arming our patients with better information about their specific health problems. This information will allow them to take greater charge of their own health and live normal, longer lives.”

~ Gary Webb, MD
Director, The Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

The team treats all types of congenital heart conditions in adults, including those complicated by heart rhythm problems, heart failure, or pregnancy; and those needing second opinions, cardiac surgery, catheter therapy, or genetic assessment.

Our Team of Faculty
The multidisciplinary team at the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center is led by Gary D. Webb, MD, one of the world's leading authorities in adult congenital heart disease. To encompass the full array of services necessary to meet the demanding needs of patients with ACHD, the team includes physicians and surgeons from anesthesiology, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, genetics, heart failure and transplantation, imaging services, pulmonary hypertension, and reproductive services.
