Electrophysiology Program
Many of the methods used around the world for diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders were developed at Penn Medicine––including major advances in the treatment and diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) and ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). Caused by disorganized electrical signals in the heart, both conditions disrupt blood flow through the heart and can cause abrupt loss of heart function and severe symptoms.
To ensure the highest standards of care for patients with heart rhythm disorders, Penn has embarked on a dramatic expansion of its electrophysiology (EP) treatment facilities and equipment. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania now has five EP procedure rooms equipped with state-of-the-art imaging and mapping systems and technologies designed to enhance and improve the accuracy, safety and effectiveness of catheter ablation therapy and cardiac device implantation.
