Papilloma
Laryngeal papilloma, or recurrent respiratory
papilloma, is a benign growth similar to a wart.
These vocal cord growths, cause hoarseness and
airway obstruction. While the cause is unknown,
papillomas affect a wide range of people - young
and old and both male and female.
Treatment includes removal of these growths under
general anesthesia. The Penn Center for Voice
at Pennsylvania Hospital is working on the latest
treatments including cidofovir
injections that can help prevent recurrence.
