Bereavement Services
The time following a loved one's death
is often difficult for families and friends.
Grief is a normal reaction to this loss. At Wissahickon
Hospice, our care does not stop with the death
of a patient. We offer bereavement programs and
services to help survivors through the grieving
process and to educate the community on various
grief related topics.
Hospice care extends from the patient to family
and friends. Professional bereavement services
are available to the patient's survivors to assist
them with addressing their grief and loss. These
services, including individual grief counseling,
monthly mailings, and biannual memorial services,
are available for up to one year following the
patient's death and are provided without charge.
Our bereavement services also extend to our
community, where we provide free support groups
and grief recovery workshops at various locations
throughout the year.
David Bradley Children's Bereavement Program
When it comes to loss of life, children have
special needs – they do not have the
same avenues or outlets as adults to express
their grief, or the experience to understand
all they are feeling. Wissahickon Hospice's David
Bradley Children's Bereavement Program provides
emotional support for young survivors of hospice
patients and guides them through the bereavement
process in a safe, sensitive environment that
caters directly to their needs.
For children ages 2 to 18, our David Bradley
Children's Bereavement Program offers:
- Individual grief counseling in the home,
provided by a certified social worker trained
to work with children – for children
in our patients' families
- Phone consultations – open to any child
in the community
- Workshops – providing discussion, art,
play and other activities
For local community groups, churches and schools,
our counselors and chaplains are available for
consultations, facilitating group discussions
and serving as speaker on
bereavement or end-of-life topics.

Ongoing Support Groups
The time following loss is often a difficult
one for families and friends. Wissahickon
Hospice offers bereavement support groups to
provide a safe place where survivors may work
through feelings triggered by a death-related
loss. It is a place to learn about the healing
power of the grieving process.
Our general bereavement groups meet weekly,
for eight sessions. A new one usually
begins every four to six weeks. These groups
address various types of losses — spousal,
parental, child, and sibling.

group dates, times and registration, please visit
