A comfortable waiting area for discharged patients
The Homeward Bound Lounge is a comfortable waiting
area for patients who have been discharged from
the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
and are waiting for a ride home. The lounge is
located in Penn Tower, across the street from
the hospital.

All guests waiting in the lounge must be picked up by 6 pm.

In preparation for discharge, the
care team determines if patients are candidates
for the Homeward Bound Lounge. If so, arrangements
are made to transport the patients to the lounge
after they are discharged.
Amenities
The lounge is furnished with comfortable reclining
chairs. Boxed meals and a variety of beverages
and snacks are available. A business center,
cable TV and reading materials are available
for use while guests wait.
Staff
The lounge is staffed by a registered nurse (RN)
and a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in
case of emergency and to make sure that guests
are safe and comfortable.
Prescriptions
Lounge staff can assist guests with filling prescriptions
at the HUP Outpatient Pharmacy. Medications
are taken by guests as prescribed by the doctor
in the discharge instructions. Lounge staff
cannot administer medication.
Leaving
Guests should let the person picking
them up know that they will be waiting at the
lounge and they should be picked up at the Penn
Tower valet area. Guests waiting in the lounge
must be picked up before the lounge closes at
6 pm. Upon arriving at Penn Tower valet parking,
drivers should call 215.349.8204. Members of
the lounge staff will take guests down to the
car.
