BENEFITS
When you work with the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the rewards are numerous. From our comprehensive benefits, to our environment that is geared toward your learning and growth, everything we do reflects our commitment to the people who work within this system.
Medical – Choices are PPO and Point of Service options with convenient access to providers within the Health System at a preferred benefit level. In the local health care market, this coverage is offered at minimal payroll cost to employees.
Prescription Benefits – Prescription benefits are provided when you choose medical coverage. A large national retail network, mail order and cost-effective co-payments make up this comprehensive benefit.
Dental – The three dental plan options provide coverage for preventive, basic, major and orthodontic services. They differ in their network options and amount you pay for covered services.
Vision – Vision benefits are offered on an employee-pay-all basis. They provide coverage for routine eye exams, glasses (lenses and frames) and contact lenses.
Life Insurance / Accidental Death & Dismemberment
(AD&D) – Life insurance and AD&D
options provide you flexibility to choose coverage
to meet your needs. Cost for these benefits is based
on base pay and age. The Health System provides one
times your base salary in coverage at no cost.
Dependent Life – Dependent life insurance provides benefits to you, as the beneficiary, in the event of the death of your spouse/partner and/or children.
Short-Term Disability – Short-term disability (STD) provides you with income if you are not able to work due to a non-work related illness or injury.
Flexible Spending Accounts - You can set aside your own dollars (pre-tax basis) to cover certain qualified medical and/or dependent care expenses that you normally pay with out-of-pocket after-tax dollars. There are no federal or Social Security taxes on the money you place in these accounts.
Long-Term Disability – Long-term disability coverage allows you to continue receiving a portion of your salary for a period of time if you are disabled (cannot perform the duties of your regular job) or injured. This employer-provided benefit provides 60% of your base pay up to $10,000 per month maximum.
Retirement – This offers financial protection and income to you and your family. Each entity offers an employer-paid retirement plan, subject to plan eligibility criteria. Additionally, a Tax Deferred Annuity Plan/403(b) as well as a 401(k) option are offered depending on where you work within the Health System.
Nursing Loan Forgiveness – The University of Pennsylvania Health System is committed to supporting newly graduated Nurses who are making the transition from learning with their clinical instructor to working with UPHS expert Nurse preceptors. The UPHS loan repayment program is intended to increase the recruitment and retention of Nurses within the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
The Program provides eligible employees with the opportunity to receive assistance from UPHS to repay student loans incurred in connection with the individual's nursing studies. Full-time benefit eligible employees will be eligible to receive the following as long as they meet all eligibility criteria:
- $1,000 at the completion of year one of employment
- $2,000 at the completion of year two of employment
- $3,000 at the completion of year three of employment
- $4,000 at the completion of year four of employment
Pharmacist Loan Forgiveness – The University of Pennsylvania Health System is committed to supporting newly graduated Pharmacists who are making the transition from learning with their clinical instructor to working. The UPHS loan repayment program is intended to increase the recruitment and retention of Pharmacists within the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
The Program provides eligible employees with the opportunity to receive assistance from UPHS to repay student loans incurred in connection with the individual's pharmacy studies. Full-time benefit eligible employees will be eligible to receive the following as long as they meet all eligibility criteria:
* $1,000 at the completion of year one of employment
* $2,000 at the completion of year two of employment
* $3,000 at the completion of year three of employment
* $4,000 at the completion of year four of employment
Tuition Assistance/Professional Development – A critical element to the mission of UPHS is education. To help employees fulfill not only the UPHS mission but their own career plans, UPHS offers a robust tuition assistance and professional development benefit for eligible employees. During the fiscal year employees can take advantage of either tuition assistance or professional development but not both.
- Tuition Assistance – Eligible full time employees are eligible for up to six courses in an academic year. UPHS pays the school directly for your tuition so you won't have to pay upfront.
- Professional Development – Eligible employees can receive up to $600 for non-credit-bearing education related to their current position in a fiscal year
Dependent Tuition Assistance – Dependent children of employees who have completed 3 years of full-time employment may qualify for tuition assistance. This benefit is available only if the dependent is accepted and enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program at the University of Pennsylvania.
Voluntary Benefits – UPHS provides free access to an online voluntary benefits program offering various services and insurance-related products from vehicle insurance to home warranty. You may apply online for real-time quotes and comparisons of highly-rated providers offering flexible, affordable plans.
Paid Time Off – UPHS provides a generous package of paid time off which includes vacation, sick, holiday and personal time.
Commuting Incentive – UPHS offers employees an opportunity to pay for parking and transit costs on a pre-tax basis. Enrolling in the TRIP program allows employees to save on commuting costs for regional transit authorities or near-to-work parking options.
Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) – Employees and their eligible dependents are offered a free confidential counseling and referral service. This program is designed to help resolve problems that may be affecting your personal or professional life.
Work-Life Balance Programs – This program will help you balance your professional and personal life and can work in conjunction with the EAP and/or medical behavioral health coverage (if applicable). Childcare, eldercare, financial and legal resources are just some of the services that are available.
Other Benefits and Services – In addition to the programs listed, UPHS offers numerous voluntary programs that employees can take advantage of. These include such things as direct deposit and fitness discounts as well as other services to make working here enjoyable.
