Innovative Surgical Options
Surgical options are now available to select
patients with Parkinson's disease and essential
tremor. The Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders
Center at Pennsylvania Hospital is the first and
one of the only hospitals in the area to perform
deep brain stimulation (DBS) for tremor due to
Parkinson's disease and movement disorders. The
hospital has the most experience in the region
with DBS, a surgical treatment that helps relieve
rigidity, improve mobility and eliminate involuntary
movements in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Research/Clinical Trials
Research is an important and ongoing mission
of the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders
Center, which actively pursues the investigation
of the disease as well as exploration of new medications.
Many patients voluntarily enroll in clinical trials
that study the effectiveness of investigational
drugs and research the causes and treatments for
Parkinson's disease. There is no charge for participating
in these trials.

Veteran's Administration Medical Center have been
