Premenstrual Syndrome
Many women endure the symptoms of premenstrual
syndrome (PMS) and need a physician who understands
their discomfort. The goal of Penn's PMS Program
is to relieve the symptoms of PMS and to increase
awareness and understanding of these problems.
Common symptoms of PMS are:
- Irritability, persistent anger
- Mood swings
- Depression or feeling sad, down or hopeless
- Anxiety, tension, feeling "on edge"
- Breast tenderness, swelling, aches
- Food cravings, changes in appetite
- Difficulty concentrating
- Poor coordination
- Sleep problems
- Decreased interest in usual activities
- Fatigue, lack of energy
Penn's PMS program has been supported by the
National Institutes of Health for over 20 years
and includes medical treatment, supportive counseling,
nutrition education, support groups and ongoing
