Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory
The Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory is a full-service, state-of-the-art laboratory providing prompt diagnosis of specific ophthalmic pathology. The laboratory is fully certified and accredited by the state and JCAHO as an anatomic pathology laboratory.
Specialized Services
- Gross and histological examination of surgical specimens
- Special histological stains and immunohistochemistry
- Cytologic examination of vitreous or aqueous fluid, ocular smears
- Urgent processing of temporal artery biopsies
- Consultative research
Processing
Most specimens are read within two working days.
A detailed surgical pathology report is issued on every specimen
Specimen Submission
Specimens may be submitted for pathologic examination and/or consultation.
An introductory kit, including laboratory request forms, mailing labels and specimen containers, will be sent to you upon request.
Specimens may be mailed, dropped off, or picked up by our free specimen pickup service.
The following information must accompany each specimen:
- Patient name
- Date of birth
- Insurance information
- Physician name, address and phone number
- Specimen description and location
- History and procedure
- Clinical diagnosis
