Gynecologic Oncology
Penn’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology will relocate to the third floor of the Perelman Center in January 2009. The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is an integral part of the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania and serves as a major referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with premalignant or invasive cancers of the female genital tract. Gynecologic cancers include cancers of the endometrium or uterus, ovaries, cervix, vulva, vagina, fallopian tubes and placenta.
Once the cancer programs have relocated to the Perelman Center, Penn will have the most comprehensive cancer care program of its kind. The space is designed to allow patients to receive comprehensive care in one location, ensuring exceptional and timely care. To provide patients with the best possible outcome, the gynecologic oncologists work closely with radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists. Chemotherapy will be available in the new infusion suite just steps away from the gynecologic oncology offices.
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology has a national and international reputation for its work in clinical research and for its basic science research laboratory which studies the immunologic aspects of gynecologic cancers, particularly ovarian cancer. Penn’s Ovarian Cancer Research Center is currently focusing on investigating the immune response to ovarian cancer and the development of novel immunotherapeutic techniques.
