Stress and Health
Stress affects your health. It affects your
day-to-day functioning, physical and mental well-being,
and interactions with others – your quality
of life. Sadly, stress limits how you view yourself
and how you engage in the world. Ultimately,
you miss the texture and richness that provide
meaning, and bring joy and fulfillment to your
everyday experiences.
The Penn Program for Stress Management (PPSM)
helps you to manage stress.
PPSM is built upon a meditation-based process
known as mindfulness. Meditation is one of the
world's most ancient and widely practiced mind-body
therapies. Western medicine is increasingly realizing
the role of stress in health and disease. An
expanding body of research and clinical evidence
supports this. One recent study suggests that
meditation may cause short-term and long-term
neural changes.
All Meditation techniques share a structured mental process that steadies and deepens attention by bringing it to rest on a stable focus - allowing your mind to settle and your body to rest. Mindfulness meditation helps you to listen to what your mind and body are telling you. By cultivating a nonjudgmental, non-reactive sense of self, mindfulness helps you to develop a clearer picture of your life and an enhanced understanding of how to care for yourself.
Our program has helped thousands of people to:
- reduce depression and anxiety
- increase focus and mental clarity
- improve communication in relationships
- heal from trauma or upset
- manage difficult situations
