Cardiothoracic Surgery
Cardiothoracic minimally invasive surgeries include:
- Aortic valve surgery – Using
a small incision called port-access in the upper
chest, the surgeon uses direct vision to replace
the aortic valve with a prosthetic valve while
a heart-lung machine keeps blood flowing through
the body.
- Mitral valve repair – Using small
incisions in the chest for access, the surgeon
repairs and/or replaces the heart's mitral valve
while a heart-lung machine keeps blood flowing
through the body.
- Bypass surgery – Using small
incisions in the chest for access and moving
some bones in the area to reach the heart, the
surgeon creates a new pathway for blood to flow
when a single heart vessel is damaged.
