Listing for Transplant

If it is decided that transplant is the best option for you, we will place you on the national computerized waiting list called UNOS (United Network of Organ Sharing). Information such as your blood type, body size and clinical status is entered into the computer.

Donor hearts are given to those in the most urgent need. If two people match criteria on an available donor heart, the heart goes to the patient who is the sickest and who has waited the longest. Only a donor who has a compatible blood type, similar body weight and a healthy heart will be considered as a possibility for your transplantation.
