Renovascular Hypertension
Renovascular hypertension pertains to elevation
in blood pressure due to a blocked kidney artery.
This condition can rarely cause congestive heart
failure, however, if uncorrected, may lead to
a loss of kidney function in some individuals,
and ultimately require dialysis. Risk factors
which can increase your risk for renovascular
hypertension are:
- Diabetes
- smoking
- high cholesterol
- high blood pressure
However, with successful treatment, renovascular
hypertension can be easy to control or even cured.
For further health information, please see the
following article on renovascular
hypertension.
Our Services
In order to restore blood flow and improve control
of hypertension, as well as heart and kidney function,
angioplasty
and stenting
are frequently utilized techniques. Surgery and/or
revascularization is occasionally necessary, via
an abdominal incision.
Penn Vascular Services also offers a wide variety
of non-invasive diagnostic machines, such as vascular
ultrasound or Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA),
that can be used to catch problems early.
